Dr. Christina Cawley, DO, FAAOS, MPT is an accomplished board certified orthopedic surgeon with extensive experience in both civilian and military settings. She earned her Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree from the University of Health Sciences College of Osteopathic Medicine in Kansas City, Missouri in 1999, following which she completed an internship at the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine. She then completed a residency in orthopedic surgery at the same institution, before undertaking a hand and microvascular surgery fellowship at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in Philadelphia.
Dr. Cawley's career spans over three decades, during which she has held numerous positions as an orthopedic surgeon, physical therapist, and military officer. She served as a Lieutenant Colonel in the United States Army Reserve Medical Corps Airborne and has extensive experience in providing medical care in combat situations. She was deployed to various provinces in Afghanistan as a member of a Forward Surgical Team.
Dr. Cawley has held several academic positions, including an assistant professorship at the Uniformed Services University of The Health Sciences and assistant program director at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey-School of Osteopathic Medicine. She has also worked as a staff orthopedic surgeon at various hospitals, including the Lebanon VA Medical Center, the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center, and the Eisenhower Army Medical Center. Dr. Cawley was a staff orthopedic surgeon at Riverside Regional Medical Center in Newport News, Virginia. She was also a member of the medical staff executive board at the Lebanon VA Medical Center, where she previously worked as a staff orthopedic surgeon from 2013 to 2021.
Dr. Cawley's research interests include combat-related peripheral nerve injuries and evidence-based medicine in military-relevant orthopedic trauma. She has published several articles on these topics in prestigious medical journals such as Muscle Nerve and Military Medicine. She is currently serving as a National Board Senior Examiner for the American Osteopathic Board of Orthopedic Surgery.
